Alleged Corozal Robbers Make A Guilty Plea

Two men accused of terrorizing Corozal Town appeared in court today.

They are 20 year old Moses Moore and 21 year old Juan Canek. They pleaded guilty to and were charged with firearms offences. Moore pleaded guilty to keeping a silver .38 Taurus brand pistol with 6 rounds of ammunition in its magazine. Canek pleaded guilty to keeping one black Beretta pistol.

The weapons are believed to have been used in two Corozal area robberies. Police discovered the weapons in the Taxi driver Darren Carrias's vehicle. Moore and Canaek used Carria's services while returning to Belize city from the Corozal area.

On September 6th Carrias's vehicle was searched for firearms and drugs at police at a checkpoint in Sandhill village. Carrias and the three other occupants of the vehicle were arrested and charged with firearm offenses. Today, following Moore and Canek's confessions Carrias and the others were cleared of all charges.

Moore and Canek have been sentenced to 2 years imprisonment.
