Cops Charge Two Men in Corozal Chinese Store Robbery
posted (September 12, 2019)

On Monday we told you that Moses Moore and Juan Canek had pleaded guilty to firearm offenses concerning two robberies that had occurred in the Corozal district. Both men were sentenced to 2 years imprisonment. We also told you about Darren Carrias, the taxi the man whose services the pair used when returning to Belize City and in whose car the weapons used in the robberies were found.

At the time of that report Carrias, Pearl Locke and 2 others had been arrested at a Sandhill checkpoint but released after the guilty pleas of Moore and Canek were accepted.

Today police told us that their investigations had revealed that Carrias and Locke had in fact played a role in the robberies.

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, N.C.I.B.
"In respect to the robberies in Corozal the robbery of Wong Toy store was reported on in our last press briefing. Police have since arrested and charged Darren Carrias for two counts of abatement to commit robbery, whilst they have also charged Pearl Locke for one count of conspiracy to commit robbery. These persons as was previously reported were intercepted at a police checkpoint in Sandhill village."

Cherisse Halsall
"We had reports that they were released after the confession of the actual robbers."

ACP Joseph Myvette
"That is not the case. More persons will be charged. What happened is that those persons were charged and taken to court in relation to the firearm charges; as a result, I believe that several of those persons plead guilty while the others were released, some of whom were taken back into custody pending the robbery investigations in Corozal. So there are others who charges are pending against."
