A security guard was shot while on duty at A&L Hardware and Construction in The Maya Beach community on the Placencia peninsula. It happened on Monday night at 9:00. 52 year old Jose Gomez, a Salvadoran watchman of Santa Cruz Village, had been on duty when two male persons approached him. One of the individuals pulled out a firearm and fired two shots at him before escaping in a white van. Gomez sustained two gunshot wounds to the right armpit and stomach with the bullets exiting through his back. He was immediately assisted by a co-worker who called the police and transported him to the Southern Regional Hospital for treatment. Two men from Seine Bight Village and Dangriga Town have been detained in connection to this shooting.
