And the only way to address this cross-border issue is through collaboration with Central American countries as well as those in other regions.

Marcelo Pisani - Regional Director, IOM
"Belize is a country of destination especially for Salvadorians but it is also a country of transit people that can't go through Guatemala sometimes go to Belize to reach Mexico so there are many challenges for examples we have in the border between Belize and Mexico, a capacity for those kids who are coming to school in Belize so migration has many faces."

Courtney Weatherburne
"Tell us about the collaboration with Belize and other Central American countries when it comes to combating human trafficking and human smuggling."

Marcelo Pisani
"Well in this region we have two scenarios where governments gather to discuss issues of migration one is the regional conference on migration that includes countries of central America, North America and the Dominican Republic and the other one is the Caribbean migration consultation and Belize is also part of this process that includes countries in the Caribbean and Guyana and in this scenario where countries can gather and discuss opportunities and challenges of migration not only on smuggling on trafficking, I mean they talk about migration climate change, and I know drugs are affecting Belize so this is also one topic that is addressed in this  scenario."
