Superman Switched Sides, Should Philloughby Fear Faber’s Wrath?
posted (September 16, 2019)
UDP's Port Loyola Standard Bearer Phillip Willoughby made a splash last week Thursday. He took to Facebook to declare his support for John Saldivar as the next UDP leader.

Willoughby was with Faber, so it was a defection to the Saldivar camp. And, actions have consequences, because Faber already had permitted him to set up his political office at the Rogers Stadium, and got him a seat on the NICH Board. Reports suggest now that he's switched camps that both those arrangements could be in trouble.

We met him on Arlington Drive in the Port Loyola area today and asked him about actions and consequences:

Phillip Willoughby, UDP Std. Bearer, Port Loyola
"I have stood up and I have stepped out and maybe the first to do so, but I am supporting John Saldivar for the leadership of the UDP."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"We have learned that this has had an immediate effect on your status, because we are told that you are being evicted from your campaign office which was at Roger's Stadium building which is within Patrick Faber's ministry of sports."

Phillip Willoughby
"Well I hope that we as men, we remain magnanimus. I hope that that is not the case. There is no need for us to treat each other as enemies."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"There is one more consideration, you are on the NICH board. Will you hand in your resignation? Have you been notified that you should rollout?"

Phillip Willoughby
"I think like any board appointment you get a letter stating the duration of your appointment. But again, we'll see where that goes and how that works out."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"You are not submitting your resignation?"

Phillip Willoughby
"Of course not. Why should I? I can contribute."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"I'm saying that you have crossed Mr. Faber. Actions have consequences. You are living with those now. They will extend. It is very forseable that you will be removed from the NICH board which is - I'm sure you are a lover of culture, but its also a little stipend."

Phillip Willoughby
"I got an appointment letter, I hope that my decision does not affect my appointment. I did what I did as a man and I will hold steadfast to that decision that I have made. If Minister Faber would like to see me remove from his board, rightfully so he is the minister and he can recind my appointment via a letter and I will respect his decision. It would be regretabble that I choosing John should have any spin-off effects to myself and the constituency. Because at the end of the day the ultimate prize is winning the constituency."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"But at the same time games have rules, loyalty is an organizing principle of politics."

Phillip Willoughby
"I know, like Jesus everybody has their own Judas right, but like I said I wont play these 2 honourable men. I wint play that game."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"We know that when you had your convention in Port Loyola and you were going against Mike Peyrefitte and signifcant political interest behind him - we saw Sista B there. Its not hard to assume that the prime minister was with Sista B supporting Mike Peyrefitte. It is Mr. Faber and Mr. Saldivar I recalll, but Mr. Faber was the general on the ground in the city who I remember being instrumental and putting his head on the line to support you in that convention. Are you being ungrateful? Are you being a backstabber?"

Phillip Willoughby
"No, I dont believe so. Jules, what is not seeing and what hasnt been said was that at the onset, at the point I tendered my resignation from NEMO, John Saldivar was there. Up until this very day John Saldivar is here. I styrongly believe and I have this gut feeling that at this point in time our country needs an economnist at the helm to look at the social ills that is affecting our societies and the only person that I see suitable or qualified to do so and not to take away anything from Minister Faber, is that of a trained economist. They can find the economic solution and that is what we need. That is what I am banking on."

Jules Vasquez, reporter
"Will that economist find you a new office?"

Phillip Willoughby
"Well I hope so."

And while Willoughby is all-in with Saldivar - what about his 16 delegates? Tomorrow you'll hear how he answered when we grilled him about that.
