Two More Charged For Over A Tonne of Cocaine
posted (September 16, 2019)
Police have arrested 2 more men - both Hondurans - for that drug plane they intercepted a week ago, which was carrying 41 bails of cocaine to a total weight of 2,896 pounds, about one and a third tonnes.

And no, these are not the ones who were injured in the hostile exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and the drug smugglers. These are 2 individuals they intercepted away from the scene.

They are the Hondurans, Terencio Cruz and Jacobo Mejia Garcia, and they were arraigned today in the Magistrate's Court on the offense of possession of a controlled with the intent to supply.

So, the alleged drug traffickers being accused have increased from 6 to 8. This afternoon, Commissioner discussed how these two were detained:

Reporter
"I understand that 2 persons were picked up in the vicinity of a resort not far away. Were there any charges brought against those individuals? Where do they stand?"

Chester Williams - Commissioner of Police
"Yes, those 2 individuals were charged with conspiracy to import drugs into the country. So, I believe they went to court this morning and should be at the prison by now."

Reporter
"Are you at liberty to share their names, their nationalities etc?"

Chester Williams
"They're both Honduran nationals. I don't have their names on hand, but I'll have the press office send the names out to you."

Reporter
"Sir, do you believe that those persons picked up elsewhere were part of the local effort to arrange this illegal landing?"

Chester Williams
"How could they be? They're Honduran nationals; they're not Belizeans. And, they came into the country the same time as those who were caught by the plane, and our investigation shows that they were at the landing site, and they were among those who had escaped when the police moved in to intercept the plane and its contents."

Cruz and Garcia were arraigned before Senior Magistrate Tricia Pitts-Anderson. No plea was taken from them because they will be tried on this offense in the Supreme Court. They were remanded until their next court date.

The other 2 detained Honduran men, Allan Yovani Mejia Chirinos and Norlan Jose Carrasco Lopez, will be arraigned on drug trafficking as soon as they are well enough to leave the hospital.
