KHMH to Union: No Pensions
posted (September 20, 2019)
The labour negotiations between the KHMH Union and the hospital board and management continue. The union increased the temperature back in July when when about 150 nurses, doctors, and medical personnel staged an impromptu walkout.

Since then talks have bene proceeding at a measured pace, and today the CEO told the media that they are talking about a collective bargaining agreement, but not about a government pension - because the board has reversed its official negotiating position:

Michelle Hoare, C.E.O. Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital
"Well the union is a certified body and we are working on establishing that. We have to put in the necessary structures to start the bargaining process for a collective bargaining agreement."

"Our staff are not pensionable because we are not public officers we fall under an authority."

Reporter:
"Would you refute what the president said that in a meeting earlier this year, that you told the staffers that they were pensionable."

Michelle Hoare, C.E.O. Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital
"Yes I did as that was an opinion that we got and it was the response of the board that yes, at the time , we thought that we were, and it was corrected based on other opinions that we sought."

"We've had several meetings, we've had meetings all along. You know we've engaged the union we've kept them updated every step of the way the union is aware of the status of the board and the organization on a whole."
