Murder suspect Found in Guatemala
posted (September 25, 2019)
Last month, we told you how police arrested and charged 19-year-old Derry Bennett, a resident of Camalote Village, with the gruesome murder of 69-year-old Mexican Ofelia Hernandez Cruz. She was beaten to death at her home on the Salt Creek Road in Sand Hill Village. Well, the cops are arrested and charged another for that crime.

He's 20-year-old Julian Torres, a resident and construction worker who also lives in Camalote Village. He was arraigned yesterday before Senior Magistrate Aretha Ford on the offense of murder. Because this offense is indictable, no plea was taken from Torres, and he was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until his next court date, which is scheduled for October 25th, 2019.

We are informed that after the crime was discovered Torres fled Belize, and went to Guatemala. He was later captured by the authorities in that country, and he was handed over this weekend to Belize police, who had the murder charge waiting for him. He claims police shot him in the leg.
