Shot By Cops, Alleged Drug Traffickers From Hospital To Jail

They were shot in a firefight with police after they landed a drug plane on the Coastal Highway 18 days ago. And after spending time recovering in the hospital, 2 injured Honduran businessmen were arraigned today.

Flanked by a huge security detail comprising BDF and GSU, 31-year-old Allan Mejia - who had his hand in a cast, and 50-year-old Nolan Carrasco - who was favoring an injury to the stomach, went to court in Belize City to be arraigned with a single count of drug trafficking.

In court the duo was unrepresented and Senior Magistrate, Tricia Pitts-Anderson explained to them through an interpreter that due to the size of the bust - which is over a tonne, no bail can be granted.

They were remanded into custody at the Belize Central Prison and now join six others, an Ecuadoran Pilot, a Co-Pilot, a Mexican and another Honduran, as well as two other men of unknown nationality who are all charged jointly.

Six of the eight are due back in Court on November 12, 2019.
