A dead dolphin was seen floating in the Corozal Bay On September 2nd. It was later extracted from the water for closer inspection. At the time the Sarteneja Alliance for Conservation and Development arranged for a necropsy to be conducted on the dolphin by a certified veterinarian. Today the DOE in a press release revealed the mammal's cause of death to be "internal bleeding due to muscle bruises in the chest area as a result of 'blunt trauma'".
The necropsy also determined that the contamination of the New River was not associated with the death of this dolphin
The Department of the Environment says that they have been monitoring the water quality of the Corozal Bay and have not found any evidence of degraded water quality conditions or fish kills as those currently observed in the New River.
