Drought Relief Coming Slower than Rains

We also got a chance to speak with Agriculture Minister Godwin Hulse on the partial state of emergency that was declared last month for the country's agro-productive sector.

The extended drought has caused a total estimated loss of 50 million dollars in crops and livestock. So, to give the farmers a bit of ease, the Government is providing relief in the form of emergency funding. The local banking sector has also agreed to work with the farmers so that they manage their loans and debts incurred due to this failure of this rain-starved crop.

Hulse explained how the relief efforts have been going:

The coupon distribution system is expected to begin in the next few days.
