Taking The Guesswork Out of Garbage
posted (October 2, 2019)
6 new solid waste transfer stations have been constructed across the country and will be operational very soon. Today Minister of state in the Ministry of Environment, Omar Figueroa, told us about the construction of the new transfer stations and his ministry's aim to consolidate solid waste to one central location.

Reporter:
"We've been told that the contract for the hauling of the waste disposal and the transfer stations for the northern area has already been distributed can you disclose who that has been given to, because we've heard names."

Omar Figueroa, Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture
"We haven't signed any contract with the north at this point because at this point the transfer stations are not operational as yet. The transfer station in Orange Walk and Corozal they just finished. We just finished building those with the IDB project that we're actually building six new transfer stations across the country because we're trying to really bring the solid waste from the entire country and channel it toward the mile 27 landfill. So at this point we haven't signed any of those contracts yet. I think some contracts are under revision they haven't been signed to the best of my knowledge but we are looking closely at trying to put those behind us and move forward with those existing contracts here."
