Where's The Senate Report?
posted (October 3, 2019)

And speaking about that tough scrutiny for the Immigration Department, a final report from the Senate Special Select Committee on Immigration has still not been produced.

Now, you'll remember that the Senators who sat on that publicly broadcasted inquiry, examined the Auditor General's reports on Immigration almost word for word. You'll remember that the Committee members listened to well over a hundred hours of testimony from the persons they called. These officials had to give account, under oath, of the clear instances of fraud and corruption that the Auditor General uncovered at the Immigration Department between 2011 and 2013.

So, it's understandable that the Committee had to wade through a lot of work to decipher who was telling the truth and who was lying, in all those hours of finger-pointing and declarations of innocence. But, the Senate Hearings ended in December 2017, since then, the Senate Committee hasn't produced a its report.

Immigration Minister Hulse says he doesn't know what's the delay:

Reporter
"Sir, can you comment on what you've heard about the Senate inquiry. Is there any update on that?"

Hon. Godwin Hulse - Senator
"I wish I knew (laughs). I wish I knew, I mean, the Senate inquiry was such a big thing, and we can't get a report, you know. So, anyway."
