Broaster the Builder?
posted (October 4, 2019)
And, so where is Edward Broaster in all this?…Finally today, we got to speak with the man at the middle of all this political noise, the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

For the past two weeks his name has been making headline news, and he's become banter for talk shows. But today we found the Deputy Compol - not hiding in an office at Belmopan headquarters, or out on some far flung operation; we found him doing construction work - building his house in the North End Estates housing area - in the Freetown division.

We asked him how he feels now that the challenge is over, and, where he lives:

Edward Broaster, Caribbean Shores Voter
"Jules, I don't know what all the fuss about. I am not running for Caribbean Shores, nor for any political office."

Jules Vasquez
"You're a public figure, you're are in second in command."

Edward Broaster, Caribbean Shores Voter
"Yes, and me and Lee Mark Chang have been friends for over 40 years - long before I join police. So this is no friend who just came and say you are my friend because I am a public figure. We are more family than friends. So when Lee Mark say that I live there, we live there."

Jules Vasquez
"It was said in court that you don't live there, you live on Lacroix."

Edward Broaster
"Well I would want to hear the answer that the person will respond to the court and obviously they can't tell a lot of lies, because they don't know anything about me."

Jules Vasquez
"Well I see you working here now on a house in Freetown."

Edward Broaster
"This is going to be my future home, Jules."

Jules Vasquez
"But right now your home is in Lake I on Lacroix Boulevard."

Edward Broaster
"Right now, I am registered at number 1 Kelly Street for good reasons and I won't spread my business out there for nobody. I am not an attorney and I am not a councilor. They should have had the decency to come and ask me some questions before they jump out there on the radio and talk all kinds of craziness."

Jules Vasquez
"Let me just ask plainly Mr. Broaster, do you live at #1 Kelly Street?"

Edward Broaster
"LIke I said we done establish that long time and I am not going into no further details about my personal business to please no whom. I've been where I want and I live where I want."

Jules Vasquez
"Your name has been brought into disrepute and the suggestion is that you have acted in a fraudulent, unethical and quite possibly illegal manner. That is the suggestion."

Edward Broaster
"Jules, they don't have no amount of money to buy my anger. My back is like a duck."

Jules Vasquez
"We haven't seen you in active duty and now I see you, you're like a construction worker. Explain to me, what the hell are you doing?"

Edward Broaster
"As you can see I am constructing a house. I am on leave for those of them who would want to be talking all kinds of craziness."

Jules Vasquez
"And you're going to remain registered in the Caribbean Shores division?"

Edward Broaster
"Of course."

Jules Vasquez
"Are you registered there so that you can vote for your friend Lee Mark? Your lifetime friend over 40 years."

Edward Broaster
"I am not going to get in who I am going to vote for. As a public figure and as a police officer, we are not allowed to discuss our preference when it comes to politics, so I'll leave that to the imagination of them."

Broaster has been working on this construction site since September and says he returns to active duty at the end of this month.
