Today police officers were at Excelsior High investigating Saturday night's shooting at the school compound.

"Well as for what I could say just when the police come to me they told me well they ask me if I know Rodman Welch and I tell them yes he is my son, they tell me he get shot and that he is at the. I get ready and I get to the hospital."

"I just see, actually I no see nothing. I was just asking him questions because they had something tied around his head and he told me the bullet went through here and came out this side and his jaw bone broke and he teeth come out, that is what he told me and so far right now he can't talk because he can't open his mouth to talk you understand and he the spit blood."

Welch is a stevedore, but he took the security guard job at the school as a side gig. But it seems whoever is after him found out about his new job and paid him a visit. His mom can't confirm nor deny this and says she can't provide any insight as to the motive.

"That is what I don't know, that is what I don't know and my son is not a hangout person or street side person right? What I know is when they want to take a drink it is right on this verandah or across at his house where he lives but as I say I cant say if nothing wasn't there, if they didn't have an issue because you don't know what happen behind your back, you understand me but as far as what I am seeing that is what I know about him but I wont say he is good and I wont say he is bad because maybe I am only seeing the good situation you understand what I am trying to say, I don't know him as a bad person like that. He has 3 kids where their mom passed away 5 years now and he dedicated to his kids, he and his 3 kids they live and he take care of them like that so."

While Welch recovers at the hospital, Excelsior principal and staff are on high alert. They have asked the police to patrol the area and are working on boosting security presence and installing lighting at the school to ensure student safety.
