Mexican Caught With Counterfeit - Hell’s Angels Connect?
posted (October 11, 2019)
Tonight a Mexican is in police custody after he was caught at the Phillip Goldson International airport yesterday smuggling 40,800 US dollars in counterfeit US dollars into Belize.

Gilberto Hernandez Gallego will be charged this weekend, while his two traveling companions, a pair of Brazilians are being given what is known as an "RLL notice" - refused leave to land - and being sent back to their home country.

The counterfeit cash was found in the false bottom of a suitcase that Hernandez arrived with yesterday. The money was undeclared, and so he and his companions were taken into custody by Special Branch. When they checked the money, they found that it was all counterfeit.

Hernandez and his companions arrived on a flight form Salvador and said they were going to Mexico, but police aren't buying it. Based on intelligence from regional counterparts, police suspect that the counterfeit cash is linked to the notorious motorcycle gang, Hell's Angels. Police believe the money was destined to enter the system here in Belize as black market US dollars.

Hernandez will be arraigned next week - so tune in on Tuesday.
