Big Case Collapses When Witness Is Late
posted (October 11, 2019)
In other court news, a public and controversial case fizzled to an end today. Leon Gentle was one of the 6 employees of Yhony Rosado's company, accused of putting a severe beatdown on their competitor's son, Vitalino Reyes Jr.. That left Reyes in a coma, from which he has still not fully recovered.

Well tonight, Leon Gentle is free of the charges of dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm that police brought against him for that incident. That's because the Supreme Court trial against him fell apart.

Gentle stood only 3 days of trial before Justice Colin William before it came to an abrupt end. A panel of jurors, including 6 men and 3 women, was ready to hear the evidence that Crown Counsel Portia Staine intended to produce in an attempt to prove Gentle's guilt.

She called 6 witnesses to testify, but an important witness failed to show up yesterday. He showed up today, but was late for court.

Crown Counsel Staine then attempted to convince the judge to grant another adjournment. But, the judge refused to grant it. So, that's when she attempted to enter a "nolle pros" against Gentle. Again, the judge denied her. Instead, he instructed the jury to return a not guilty verdict against Gentle, setting him free. Outside of court, he told reporters that he wants to bring a lawsuit against the authorities for malicious prosecution.

Of important note is that the DPP could not call the victim, Vitalino Reyes Jr., to testify against Gentle in the trial. That's because he has suffered permanent brain damage from the coma, and it affects his ability to communicate. At the time of the beatdown, he couldn't give them a written statement, and now, he is not able to speak or write due to his condition.
