A Children's Parliament event is being organized in Belize to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

It will be held on November 20th in the House of the Representatives and will see children take over the role of Speaker of the House, Mace Bearer, Clerk of the National Assembly and the 31 seats of the House of the Representatives. The children will debate an issue of national development.

The first training was held at the Monkey Bay Sanctuary campgrounds on the George Price Highway, over the weekend. It included sessions in public speaking, debate procedures and training from the Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly in parliamentary procedures and the Standing Orders of the House. A second training is slated for November 18-20 at the Baptist Training Center in Camalote Village.
