The government has already accepted, and legislated, that the 40 thousand dollars which Joshua Perdomo owes is unrecoverable, a complete write off.

And while the public purse has to take that loss, the loss in political capital could prove to be even greater for the Barrow Administration.

And that's because the opposition - which completely missed the write off when it first went to the house two months ago - now just won't let it go.

The latest is that Opposition Leader John Briceno wrote the Prime Minister yesterday saying that he's legally wrong to say the loan is statute barred and unrecoverable.

Briceno notes that the write-off is predicated on the statement that Perdomo cannot be located - even thought he is the Cabinet Secretary's son. Well the opposition leader points out that Joshua Perdomo lives in Texas and lists his place of employment, and its address. He adds that the Prime Minister can get his home address from his father, the Cab Sec.

Briceno concludes, quote, "Prime Minister, this obscene decision rammed through the House of Representatives where the Speaker stifled debate, and defeated in the Senate cannot and should not stand. Belizeans roundly condemn it as nepotistic and corrupt….I call on you to immediately reverse this decision. If you fail to publicly announce that you will take steps to do so, the PUP will initiate legal action to have this…write off declared unlawful and set aside." End quote.

We'll see what will be the Prime Minister's response, if any.
