What About Waste Control?
posted (October 16, 2019)
So, while the Mayor contemplates that nearly half-a-million-dollar headache for the Candice Miller judgment, he and the council still have the default judgment of approximately 1million dollars that they owe to Belize Waste Control.

That's one of the cases that his council cited against Miller for the alleged dereliction of duty, which Justice Abel disagreed with. You'll remember that the Mayor claimed that when Miller was City Administrator, she failed to properly inform them about this pending judgment. Miller has always maintained that she did bring it to the Mayor's attention and that it was he who dropped the ball on that one.

And now it rests on the Mayor's desk. So, what will the City Council do about it? Well, the Mayor couldn't give the press a straight answer on that one. Here's the back and forth:

"Outside of that, you also have this looming claim from BWC, in upwards of a million dollars. That has to be paid as well."

Bernard Wagner - Mayor, Belize City Council
"Again, we have not begun to contemplate looking at that matter. Right now, we are focusing on whether our case, if we do appeal, will have footing."

Reporter
"What residents are questioning is whether the Council is able to perform its duties, to perform its mandate, as well as honoring these rulings, these debts."

Bernard Wagner
"Well, we have been. We have been meeting our obligations on a monthly basis, and again, without any sort of financial contribution from GOB. And that in itself, in my view, speaks to the prudent manner in which we have been running this Council."

Later on in the news, we'll have more from the Mayor and City Councillor Dr. Candice Pitts, on a new initiative in the Mesopotamia Division.
