NICH Technicians In Suriname Learning About Colonial Architecture
posted (October 16, 2019)
Two NICH staffers are in the culturally complex South American nation of Suriname learning about the preservation of Dutch colonial architecture.

Surinamese Television spoke to Sylvia Batty and Phylicia Pelayo about what they are learning there:…

The subtitles are Dutch since that is the official language there.

We note that this is a return trip by the NICH technicians, since a two-member team from Suriname came to Belize in June to learn about preserving Pre-Columbian archaeological sites and Historic period built-heritage sites are conserved and managed.

After the visits, both countries will be developing a framework document which addresses mitigating the effects of climate change on Pre-Columbian and Historic period sites.

The exchange project is funded by UNESCO.
