Caught By A Facebook Con
posted (October 17, 2019)

19-year-old Taydon Castillo, a resident of Coney Drive in Belize City, is accused tonight of engaging con-man tactics. Several persons say that he posted merchandise for sale on the Facebook Group, Belize Buy and Sell. He then allegedly collected money from customers who wanted to buy his items, but he never delivered them their goods.

In one allegation, Yolanda Marisol Calles paid him $750 on July 30th for a cellular phone he advertised for sale on Buy and Sell. She claims that he never delivered the phone. Then, on October 8, Claudia Chi allegedly paid him $500 as a down-payment for an apartment he claimed he had for rent. Finally, Glen Andrews alleges that he paid Castillo $2,000 as a down-payment for a piece of land he supposedly had for sale. All 3 customers said that Castillo, who is also referred to as “Michael Johnsonâ€￾, never delivered the items they paid for.

So, police investigated their complaints, and they arrested and charged Castillo with 3 counts of obtaining property by deception. He was arraigned on Tuesday in front of Magistrate Khadeem Palmer. He pleaded not guilty to the offenses, and he was released on bail of $6,000.

Court reports suggest that there are concerns that he may make attempts to abscond.
