And while the weekend was filled with fatal accidents and several shootings, the village of Santa Cruz saw a different but perhaps more devastating tragedy.
A 3-year-old child drowned at the bottom of a well in at his home in Santa Cruz, Stann Creek.
His mother had just lost sight of him for a few moments as she prepared the midday meal. She called the police to report her son missing. That's when they visited the home. They told us what they found when they got there.

"Independence police were in Santa Cruz village whereupon arrival they visited the home of one Alma Bonilla who reported to them that sometime shortly after midday while she was in her outside kitchen cooking she had left her three year old son along with another child two and a half years playing inside the home and shortly before 1pm when she went searching for her child he was not found and upon searching the yard the child was found in a well which was dug inside the yard which was filled with water as a result with the assistance of neighbors the child was removed from the well and he was motionless at the time. He was then transported to the independence polyclinic where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He is 3 year old Oscar Bonilla."
