Hugo Patt and Tracy Taegar Panton Will Face Off for First Deputy
posted (October 22, 2019)
Tonight, things are a lot more interesting in the UDP race for executive posts. That's after Corozal North's Hugo Patt submitted his name for First Deputy Leader. As expected, that puts him on a collision course with Tracy Taegar Panton who put in her name yesterday. Patt will declare his support for John Saldivar and is part of his unofficial slate. And, sources tell us, Taegar-Panton was supposed to be a part of that too, the candidate for second deputy. But, Taegar Panton scrapped that script when she jumped out yesterday and submitted her name for first deputy. So, now, she and Patt will face off for that post and the party's 460 delegates who will make the choice in February of 2020. But, Taegar Panton is likely going into an executive headwind, because, as we reported yesterday, the powerful hands in the background which are shaping the new executive are with Hugo Patt, not her.

And, as for that second deputy spot that Taegar Panton allegedly walked away from, well, another woman candidate has stepped up to fill it.

According to a release, "Belize Rural Central's Beverly Williams today submitted her letter of application to be a candidate for the post of 2nd Deputy Party Leader of the United Democratic Party."

The release adds, "Honorable Williams also takes this opportunity to indicate her endorsement of Hon. John Saldivar as the next Party Leader for the UDP as well as her intention to join the campaign as a part of TeamSaldivar." End quote.

Williams is the only person who has submitted her name to contest that post.

With Patt and Williams both declaring for Saldivar, we'll see whether Panton will declare for Faber or remain independent. Also, a second deputy challenger may come out of the Faber camp.

Applications for executive posts are being accepted until Friday.
