17 Years For Murder Downgraded to Manslaughter
posted (October 22, 2019)
And while that accused man walks, 25-year-old Stephan Jenkins who has been on remand for the murder of Dennis Williams has been sentenced to 17 years in jail for the lesser charge of manslaughter.

54-year-old Dennis Williams was the casualty of an armed robbery, which happened on November 8th, 2012. He was on the job when 4 men, including Jenkins, stormed the poultry enterprise's compound on Vernon Street. They were attempting to rob the business place, and in the process, Williams was shot and killed.

The robbers tried to escape, but quick police response resulted in the detention of 2 of the 4 culprits, including Jenkins, who was only 18-year-old at the time. The other captured accomplice was Ashton Thompson, who was also 18-year-old at the time. The officers also recovered what was believed to be the murder weapon, a 9mm pistol.

In November of last year, when this case came up, Jenkins decided to plead guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. Thompson chose instead to plead not guilty.

So, that brings us to yesterday's hearing before Justice Marilyn Williams, who passed sentenced on Jenkins today. She ruled that he will spend 17 years in jail for the crime.

Thompson is still awaiting trial in connection with this case.
