Is Faber Being Muscled Out of Leadership Race?
posted (October 24, 2019)

And while Faber is publicly playing political kumbaya, behind the scenes right now it's a cut throat competition to secure standard bearers and their delegates.  And we get the sense that a lot of the energy from within the party is geared at making sure Faber does not get into the leader's seat.

We asked him today about those guiding hands:

Jules Vasquez
"Would you accept that there are guiding hands inside the UDP who are trying - and they have tried before - who are trying to shape a leadership slate for John Saldivar and not for Patrick Faber?"

Hon. Patrick Faber - UDP Deputy Leader
"Well, I don't have any evidence of that I can merely speculate just like you and that speculation can only land us in problems. So let its leave that alone.  I don't have any evidence to suggest that at this time and whenever it is I confirm, if that is the case, I will let you know."

Jules Vasquez
"Sir, but will you accept that your campaign for leadership right now has to be run s a sort of guerrilla campaign, insofar as, I know from the background conversations that I hear from not small people."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"It seems I have to take back my congratulations about you being careful."

Jules Vasquez
"I know that there are forces within the UDP which are determined that Patrick Faber will not lead, and they are - let's just say - putting their money where their mouth is."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"Well, as I said, I don't know that to be the case factually."

Jules Vasquez
"But, aren't you in a position where you have to snipe off the delegates?"

Hon. Patrick Faber
"Absolutely not.  Absolutely not.  We're not even at the position where those delegates have all been selected. I don't think that any more than 5 or 6 maybe 7 constituencies have officially registered their delegates. So, we're not at that stage whatsoever.  And as far I can tell you factually, none of my colleagues, even those who have confirmed their support for Saldivar have said to me we will not make, I will not make my delegates open to a meeting with you, or I will try to shield them from you.  None of them have said that.  And that is what I am absolutely hoping will not change."
