From Meatpie Delivery Man to Stick Up Man?
posted (October 28, 2019)
Belize's biggest meat pie factory was held up on Saturday evening - and police say a former delivery man is behind it.

23 year old, Joseph Richards, a former employee of Dario's Meatpies, is allegedly one of the gunmen in a home invasion at the residence above the Hyde's Lane factory on on Saturday evening.

Police say that Richards and a partner, who remains at large, injured two women in the burglary.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero
"On Saturday the 26th day of October 2019 around 6:15a.m. Police responded to an aggravated burglary report on Hyde's Lane at Dario's meat pies. Upon their arrival Nicole Perdomo 43 years reported that whilst counting money at the establishment on the second floor, two male persons came in, who were armed with firearms, and proceeded to steal an amount of Belizean currency and US currency cash. As a result they received injuries. Thereafter the male persons fled from the area. A quick police response and investigation lead to the recovery of the money and we have several persons detained and we'll determine what charges will be levied upon them by the end of today."

Today, Richards was arraigned in court for aggravated burglary. He pleaded not guilty. His attorney, Ronell Gonzalez, submitted that he should be granted bail even though the offence was committed with a firearm. That request was denied by the court.

Richards was remanded to the Belize Central prison until December 30.
