Smugglers Busted With Weed and Contraband Cigarettes

Orange Walk police charged 4 men form different parts of the country with possession of drugs with intent to supply after they were caught on Saturday night with 1.2 kilos or 2 and a half pounds of weed, and over 100 packs of contraband cigarettes. Police told us more at the bi-weekly press briefing in Belmopan.

"Orange Walk police were conducting vehicular check points near the toll bridge when a red Ford 150 pickup approached the check point at the time being driven by one Nestor Chimal, 38 years old of a Corozal town address. He was accompanied by 3 other male persons, namely Claudel Stephenson, 35 years of an Orange Walk address, Tyrone Broaster of a Belize City address, he is 38 years and Clinton Allen 22 years of a Belize City address. As a result police indicated to the driver that they would conduct a search on the vehicle and in so doing police discovered a knapsack beneath the drivers seat that contained 4 parcels of suspected cannabis which when weighed amounted to 1,254.9 grams and also found in a hidden compartment within the vehicle was 110 packs of cigarettes. As a result those persons were taken to the OW police station where they were processed and later charged for the cannabis which is they were charged with possession with intent to supply in relation to the cannabis while the customs department is dealing with the part dealing with the cigarettes."

Today in Orange Walk Magistrate's Court, they were charged for drug possession, pleaded not guilty and granted bail of $4,000

Police said at least one of the men are known to them as a drug peddler.
