Drug Plane In Guat With Major Artillery
posted (October 28, 2019)
Tonight there is the report of another drug plane - but this one is in Guatemala - and it ended in bullets and gunsmoke. According to a Guatemalan news site, early Friday morning the Guatemalan Air Force's radar detected an illegal flight that had entered the country's airspace. The flight touched down in the south central portion of that country, and when the military and police arrived, they found themselves in an armed confrontation with the alleged drug traffickers.

In the aftermath of the confrontation one soldier was shot and the drug traffickers escaped having abandoned their cargo, the plane and a few vehicles.

The plane contained 3,421 pounds of cocaine, five guns, nine rifles, a grenade launcher, eight 40 millimeter grenades, 10 tactical vests, 10 portable radios, and lots of ammunition, while one of the vehicles contained illicit rifles, guns, grenade launchers and military equipment.

During the drug bust a Guatemalan Air Force pilot allegedly stole a satellite phone which had been inside the aircraft. He has since been arrested and sent before a military court.
