The Downward Tourism Trend?
posted (October 31, 2019)

Shaw now has to convince his membership that working together is in everyone's interest at his next meeting of the Bus Association on November 17th.  And, they may be seized by the urgency of that when October's tourism figures come out.  Tejada warns, they won't be pretty:

Ted Tejada - President, Belize Hotel Assoc.
"We've studied trends and we believe that trends take a while for it to fix. I believe October from listening to the Hoteliers that is going to be another troubling month. There were several hotels that closed their doors in October because they had no tourism and it's not only the bus situation, we were also affected with sargassum. The entire Caribbean was affected, up to Cancun and Playa and the Europeans don't like the sargassum, the smell of the sargassum. If we're not cleaning the beaches, they're not going to come, that's a deterrent for them anyways. So we have a compound problem that we are working on."

The BTB last released official statistics in July.
