El Progresso - Montero's Political Breadbasket?
posted (November 7, 2019)

And as we told you the today's Preschool groundbreaking was one of three groundbreaking's in the Cayo Central division.  It's also the second event we've covered in this small remote village of el Progresso in less than a week.

Front and central at both events was area representative Rene Montero. We asked him if he's counting on the village to shore up his political fortunes in Cayo Central.

Jules Vasquez
"It's the second event you've had in 7 miles progresso in a week or in a few days. Is this now a strategic village for you being that you lost the village council in the very big San Antonio and in Georgeville, Unitedville?"

Hon. Rene Montero - Area Rep, Cayo Central
"Indeed, you know I don't consider it a lost in San Antonio because it was a disenchanted UDP that ran independent and we only lost by 26 votes and the independent vote carried 168 votes. So I would not consider it a lost. Education has been very important for me, it doesn't matter whether it's a UDP or PUP, education is for all and it is our duty to empower our youths, to empower the children because they are going to be the future of tomorrow. So it is not about politics, it is about vision building."
