Raheem Rolls Out Of Jail
posted (November 11, 2019)
27-year-old Raheem Marsden, the man accused of murder for the stabbing death of 30-year-old Alfonso Castillo, is at home tonight after being remanded at the Belize Central Prison for almost 3 and a half years. The charge has been withdrawn against him at the request of the DPP's Office.

Marsden was the man police accused of stabbing Castillo on July 21st, 2016. Castillo was socializing with several friends in an ally a few blocks away from his Belize City home on Victoria Street. Castillo somehow ended up in an argument with another man, which quickly escalated to violence. That individual stabbed him 3 times, and he ended up hospitalized at the KHMH. Doctors saved him, and it appeared that he would survive the attack. Exactly 1 week later, on July 28th, he was scheduled to be released from the hospital into the care of his family. Unfortunately, he suffered complications while he was still at the hospital, and he passed away very suddenly.

Police initially arrested and charged Marsden with attempted murder, and 4 months after Castillo passed away, they upgraded the charge to murder. But when Marden's case came up today before Justice Marilyn Williams, Crown Counsel Sherigne Rodriguez informed the court that the DPP's Office was entering a "nolle pros" against him. No reasons were offered in court for the decision. As viewers are aware, the DPP's Office can bring the charge against him a second time if they feel they have enough evidence to successfully prosecute him for it.

After the judge informed Marsden about the nature of the position from the Crown, she informed him that he was free to leave.
