COMPOL Wants to “Root Out” Gang Members
posted (November 13, 2019)
We also asked the commissioner about the continuing prosecutions of gang members. Recently, a trio of those who admitted to gang membership were sent to jail - when in the past they were simply being fined.

Williams says he welcomes this because he is trying to, quote, "root them out of society":

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We are going after those who are hell-bent about trying to create havoc within the society and we can prove by way of investigation that the activities that they are engaged in is that of a gang member, so that when we present the case before the court we will be able to get a conviction."

"Those persons we have to find a way to root them out of society and so we use the law to charge them for the gang law hoping that the court is going to put them in prison where they belong and there are some gang members who you can see that they are trying to reform, they are trying to do better. With those we try to see how we can work with them with a view to help them make that change."
