Six Months For Shooting At Cop Enough?
posted (November 13, 2019)
And, while he didn't confess to being a gang member, Kyle Chaplin did confess yesterday to shooting at four police officers. He got six months for it. We asked Commissioner Williams what he thought of the penalty:

Reporter
"Kyle Chaplin confessed or told the court he is guilty of firing upon 4 police offiers and he got 4 concurrent sentences of 6 months, so he will serve 6 months in prison. Are you satisfied with that sentence?"

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"Well I don't want to delve into the work of the judiciary, as you would know I too was shot at and the guy who shot at me got 6 months as well, after he pled guilty. That's the way how the court works. I am not here to try and bring down the magistrates. They demit sentence based on the facts before them and based on mitigations made by the accused person and at the end of the dy people can reform, people do things out of the spur of the moment and if it is that the court believes that the sentence that they deserve then I am not going to question the judgement of the magistrate."

Reporter
"Wouldn't you like a stronger message to be sent?"

Chester Williams
"Of course I would love to, but at the end of the day that's the duty of the court."
