posted (November 14, 2019)

On Tuesday, we told you that Corozal Junior College's Liyan Moralez is the Most Outstanding Candidate for his eight Grade I's and one Grade II on the CAPE examinations.

For that performance, he is the winner of the Belize Scholarship for 2019. Moralez is currently studying in the Caribbean but CTV3 spoke to him by phone and he told them how much it took to achieve the top grade.

Liyan Moralez - Most Outstanding Student
"The hardest part is making time for preparations because many a time you would have to pay attention to your schoolwork which -- from CJC and then you have to make extra time to cater for the requirements for CAPE. I also put in practice at home. So that I could better understand the concepts so this involved additional work on my behalf. There is no challenge that is too great to conquer but every challenge does require that we put our bit of work so if we input the work we will surely get a good output. Upon finding out the news well to begin with I was very excited you know the hard work had paid off but, I was also very thankful because I understood that the achievement didn't only belong to me because I have to give credit to my parents and, by extension, my family, my lecturers and the administrative staff of CJC. At the moment I'm in Trinidad and Tobago pursuing a Bachelor's degree in chemical and process engineering. I'm a fan of industrialization and development of my country, so for the moment I'm not too sure of how I will contribute but the ultimate goal is to be able to contribute to the development of Belize."

Moralez and his fellow outstanding students will be recognized  at the CXC National Awards Ceremony on November 29. This year, it will be held at The Omar Longsworth Auditorium in Independence Village.
