Education Minister Praises Gov't Secondary School
posted (November 14, 2019)

And the Minister of Education is beaming with pride over the trio of brilliant Belizean students who performed exceptionally on the CSEC exams. Today, when we caught up with him, he underscored the achievement of Edward P. York, a government school, in producing the exam's three top performers.

Hon. Patrick Faber - Minister of Education, Culture,
"It is a success story every year that we are able to see so many more students take a CSEC examinations of course this is in no small part because of the government's intervention and the government's paying for six CXC's or CSEC's for these students. We're very proud of that and we're very proud that more and more students are taking these exams and putting Belize on the map. In the initial days of us paying for these exams we saw instances where students would sign up for the exams and not turn up and I want to say how pleased we are that, that is dwindling, that people who now have the government make this kind of investment are indeed taking that investment seriously and many more students are sitting the exams as I said and we're doing much better in terms of the passes and we're pleased that we're going in this direction. Of course there's always room for improvement and we're particularly pleased this year that our top performers, I think they've done well. I think the government gets an additional feather in its cap because the two top performers are from a government school once again one of the better schools in our country. I'm pleased to say that I'm not only the minister of education that can boast proprietorship but I'm also a parent of an E.P York student now so I'm very pleased that they continue to do well but all those students who managed to do well, I congratulate them and especially our students who will be participating in the regional award ceremonies because this really again as we've been saying all afternoon puts Belize on the map."

Those top performers, once again, were Alexis Guy currently enrolled in John Paul II Jr. College, Dayana Marroquin, and Angie Matute currently enrolled in the University of Belize.
