Home Invaders Stabbed By Son On Crutches Wielding Pickaxe
posted (November 18, 2019)
Two women were stabbed on Friday afternoon. It happened during a home invasion that took place on Rio Grande Crescent in Belize City. The women 37 year old Elvia Cal and 42 year old Maria Pinto had just returned home from a day's work at Cal's taco stand. It was then that three men who had masked their faces with rags and armed themselves with knives and a firearm entered the yard.

The burglars proceeded to enter the house but were unaware that their movements were being observed by Cal's son. Once inside the masked men threatened and attacked the women who screamed in terror. Cal's son was on crutches following a motorcycle accident a week prior. But in that moment he acted quickly grabbing a pick axe and moving, as unbalanced as he was, to swing at the men. He missed them on the first swing but may have grazed one of them in the calf with his second try. He did however succeed in frightening them badly enough that the two of them bumped into each other causing one to drop the firearm.

Cal's son then retrieved the firearm and pointed it at the third man causing him to flee as well.

Today at the press briefing in Belmopan, the Deputy Commander of National Crimes Investigation said no one has been arrested or charged:

Sr. SUPT., Hilberto Romero
"Police visited the residence were they found Elvia Cal and Maria Pinto with stab wounds. Found at the scene was a point 22 revolver. Information was that three male persons entered the house armed with knives and a firearm and proceeded to rob the occupants. At some point inside the house. The son of one of the victims intervened and the gun fell on the floor. Thereafter all three male persons fled from the area. Both victims were treated at the KHMH for stab wound injuries and they were later released. Investigation is ongoing into this matter and no one has been charged for this incident so far."

Notably, when the men dropped the gun - the magazine fell out - so when he pointed it at the third man - it had no live rounds in it.
