Violence in Dangriga is the last thing anyone wants to hear about ahead of Garifuna Settlement Day but here was a shooting in the culture capital over the weekend.
19 year old Alvin Lopez was walking home in the Lakeland area when he was shot to the instep by a man that he reportedly knows. Head of National Crimes Investigation ACP Joseph Myvette told us more today:

"Dangriga police were called to the Southern Regional Hospital where they observed one Alvin Lopez 19 years with apparent gunshot injury to his left instep. He reported that whilst walking home in the Lakeland area of Dangriga he was approached by a male person where there was a confrontation and as a result he was fired upon by the male person receiving that injury. Police have since conducted an investigation and one person is in custody pending this investigation."
Reports are that Lopez discharged himself from the southern regional Hospital Yesterday afternoon but had to be re-admitted due to heavy bleeding from the gunshot wound to his instep.
