The Strange Case Of Derrick Martinez
posted (November 20, 2019)
Viewers may remember the very strange case of Derrick Ramirez. He was the fisherman from Dangriga who went missing in August of this year while he was a fishing trip near Cross Caye. It was feared that he was murdered, and several days later, his family's worst fears were confirmed his body was discovered off the coast of Dangriga.

But, the case took an unusual turn when the main suspect in Ramirez's killing also went missing at sea. He's Oscar Williams Jr., and shortly after police started investigating this crime, he was taken into police custody. It appears that he was then escorted to Cross Caye by 2 police officers, one of whom is the brother of Derrick Ramirez.

That was a major break in protocol, due to the conflict of interest, and the police command said that they would be brought up on disciplinary charges for it. This missing suspect could have also had criminal implications for the men if he turned up dead. But, in our interview with the Police Commissioner today, he said police have information that Williams is hiding out somewhere in Honduras. Here's what he told us about the internal charges against the officers who shouldn't have removed him from the police station in the first place:

To Date, police have not made any arrests for the murder of Derrick Ramirez.
