posted (November 21, 2019)

A 72 year old Placencia man was swindled out of $4,000 - in a bogus sale that was set up on facebook. Allan Stamp wanted to buy a golf cart from a person who goes by the name of Thomas Young on facebook. Young arranged to have someone meet Stamp in Belama and collect the money. But after that transaction, Young could not be found and Stamp never got his golf cart. Police told us more at the press briefing this morning.

Sr. Supt. Hilberto Romero - CIB
"Allan Stamp, 72 years naturalised Belizean of Placencia Village reported that he made contact with one Thomas Young on Facebook regarding the sale of a golf cart. Arrangements were made to make a down payment for $4,000, the payment was received by a male person at Belama where he gave the male person a receipt, after the person received the money he left and thereafter the complainant is now unable to locate this person or to get the golf cart. Police are conducting investigation to find out who this person is. We want to warn the public to be careful and ask for more details and facts before any transaction is done, ask for identification and verify before you make any payment as such."
