Police Woman Witness Doesn’t Help Prosecution

We often report on murder cases falling apart when witnesses don't show up, or rent their statements. But, today, the prosecution in a murder case had an excellent eyewitness, in the form of a woman police constable. She said she saw when Frank Young shot and killed 19 year old David Andrews on Raccoon Street on December 23rd, 2016.

And she appeared in court to back up that statement. But, Justice Colin Williams found that there were procedural improprieties which undermined her identification of the suspect. First, she was given too few pictures to choose from when identifying the suspect, and second, she gave her statement after the identification parade, which the judge said was improper. Justice Williams added that she identified the shooter under strained circumstances in poor light. After Crown Counsel Portia Ferguson closed her, Young's attorney, Oscar Selgado submitted that he did not have a case to answer. Justice Williams upheld the submission and found Young not guilty
