Shooting Of Security Guard Still a Mystery
posted (November 25, 2019)
Assistant Commissioner Myvette also had a few comments to share about last week Thursday's shooting of 25-year-old Justin Stephen Teck.

As we told you, Teck, who is a security guard from Hunter's Lane, was standing in front of a car wash on New Road at around 6 p.m. Even though that's not too far from the Queen Street Police Station - and a series of fixed checkpoints, a gunman darted out of a nearby alley and fired several shots at him: one hit him in the head, the other in the back.

Here's what police had to say about the second time that Teck has been shot in the head:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"On Thursday, sometime around 6:10 p.m., police were called to a shooting on New Road, Belize City. Upon arrival, they were told that the victim had already been transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. They visited the victim and learned his name to be Justin Stephens Teck, of a Belize City address, and he had an apparent gunshot injury. What the police know so far is that Mr. Teck was walking on New Road, and had stopped somewhere in the vicinity of a car wash, when he was approached by someone who came out from through an alley and fired upon him, causing the above-mentioned injury. At this point in time, he is in a stable condition, and police are seeking one suspect in relation to this investigation."

"From all indications, it seems that Mr. Teck isn't known to have affiliations with street or underworld figures. You know that he has been shot in the past before, and the suspicion then was that he was targeted simply for the area where he lives. Is it a similar situation this time around?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"At this point in time, we have not been able to establish that, so we really don't want to speculate in relation to what the motive would have been."

Teck continues to receive medical treatment at the KHMH, where he was posted as a guard.
