Man Dies A Week After Accident
posted (November 25, 2019)
The cops are also finishing up their investigation on a fatal traffic accident that occurred on the Iguana Creek Road in the Cayo District.

On Saturday, November 16th, 45-year-old Adan Diaz was driving his motorcycle when he was hit from behind by a motorist who has been identified by police as Pedro Bahadur. After being hospitalized at the KHMH for a week, Diaz succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

Police told us today they are trying to decide how they will proceed against Bahadur for this now-fatal accident:

ACP Joseph Myvette - Head, NCIB
"San Ignacio police responded to an information of a road traffic accident on the 16th of November, on the Iguana Creek Road. They spoke to one Pedro Bahadur, of a San Ignacio Town addressed. According to Mr. Bahadur, he was driving his grey Amarok Volkswagen from south to east on the Iguana Creek Road, when he observed a male person on a red motorcycle going in the same direction. As a result, he attempted to overtake the motorcycle, whose driver also then swerved to his left. He moved further left in order to avoid an accident, however, he ended up still colliding into the motorcycle, which at the time, was being driven by one Adan Diaz, 45-year-old, of a Billy White address, I believe. The victim was transported to the San Ignacio Community Hospital, and later to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where, I believe, it was yesterday that he succumbed to those injuries. At the time of the accident, Mr. Bahadur was served with a notice of intended prosecution, whilst the was ongoing. This will be continued, as a result of the victim's death at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital yesterday."

"For the public's benefit, when a motorist tries to overtake, and an accident happens, does it automatically mean that the motorist who tried to overtake becomes responsible criminally?"

ACP Joseph Myvette
"Not necessarily, hence the reason for every investigation, in relation to those things. There have been instances where persons have not been charged, where they were found to be not at any fault. And there are instances where people are charged."

Police say that DPP's office will be consulted on whether or not they should bring criminal charges against Bahadur.
