Local Bio-Degradable Products For After The Plastic Ban
posted (November 26, 2019)
And one major move to eliminating those pollutants is the long delayed ban on single use plastics. When it does come into effect in 2020, all those plastic straws, styrofoam containers and single use plastics will have to be removed from the consumer market.

However, the eco alternatives that could replace those plastics are more expensive than their industry standard counterparts.

Could the stark juxtaposition between the costs of disposable containers before and after the ban drive up the price of fried chicken and a plate from your rice and beans lady?

We headed out to Vista del Mar today to talk to Benjamin Lo of Nature plus, the only local manufacturer of semi-biodegradable disposables in the country, and he shared some of the challenges that his products and imported biodegradable containers will face as they become mainstream following the ban.

The DOE has indicated that final discussions with The Ministry of Trade surrounding the ban on single use plastics have been resolved with the final drafting of the ban currently underway at the Attorney General's Ministry. An enactment date is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
