posted (November 29, 2019)
And while that is the story for this morning's fatal accident, Wednesday's Western Highway horror is burrowed in everyone's mind. 7 persons were killed - making it the worst multiple road fatality in memory. There was also another traffic fatality yesterday afternoon where another tourist was killed, we will have more details on that accident later, but first, to Commissioner of Police Chester Williams' commitment to increased highway patrols and education on road safety.

Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
"We have seen that the traffic fatalities on our highways are becoming more and more prevalent, it may have to do with the improve on the highways and drivers driving in such a way that they are not paying as much due care as they should. We will be embarking on a campaign starting today where we will have enforcement on the highways a you would know that national traffic do have the responsibility of policing the highways where traffic is concerned and we work in tangent with then most of the time and the police focuses more on dealing with crime issues that the time has come that we need to go back and play a more active role in traffic enforcements so just today I directed commander of national traffic Mr. Stevens to ensure that everyday we have a highway patrol on the Phillip Goldson Highway and one on the George Price Highway. We will try to maintain as much as we can to be able to see how we can minimize these incidences. As part of that what we will be doing as well is issue traffic safety pamphlets that drivers can use as a guide in terms of how to use the highways safely and so we are hoping that drivers are going to take heed to the warning and I also want to appeal to drivers that when on the highways if it is that you are going to overtake please ensure that there is sufficient distance for you to complete your overtaking and try not to take no chances."
