Grandmother Killed In Tyre Blowout
posted (November 29, 2019)
And while police will do their best to create more safety on the roads, as we noted at the top of the news - there have been 10 traffic deaths in 40 hours, spread across four accidents on the northern, western and southern highways.

And, tonight, a US family is mourning after their 77 year old matriarch died on the Phillip Goldson Highway.

As we told you, it happened at 3:30. Tour guide Henry Gillette was driving a Ford Freestyle Van with a family of 7 American cruise tourists, ranging in age from a pair of 10 year old twins to a 79 year old grandfather.

Between miles 41 and 42, Gillette, had a blowout of his right rear tyre and the van flipped, flinging the 77 year old matriarch of the family, Carolyn Moxley Gillis on the pavement where she died instantly. The family had to console themselves as they watched her dead on the pavement.

A shattering scene and Police told us more today:

ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crime Investigation Branch
"Orange Walk police were called to the scene of an accident between miles 41 and 42 on the Phillip Goldson Highway, where upon arrival they observed a red in color van on the right hand side of the road went south bound with extensive damage to the roof and also observed a female clear complexion person lying on the side of the road apparently motionless. She was later identified a Carolyn Gillis, 77 years American national and what the police know so far is that the van at the time was being driven by Henry Gillett of a Belize City address. He had taken a group of tourists somewhere in the north and was returning to Belize City when he apparently suffered a blow out to the right rear tire which caused him lose control and the vehicle overturned several times during which Miss Gillis was flung from the vehicle. Several other family members, six to be exact who had also been in the vehicle also received varying degrees of injuries. Some of them are hospital at the Northern Regional Hospital along with Mr. Gillett. He has so far been served with a notice of intended prosecution."

The driver, Henry Gillette, known as Pulu Musa declined comment today - referring us to his attorney.
