Head On Collision, One Tourist Family’s Loss
posted (November 29, 2019)
And while that was Thursday's death of a tourist, one Wednesday - as we've told you, it was 7 dead, 4 Belizeans and three tourists. Tonight, the news is filtering out to international - especially US - news outlets and we have a clearer picture of the Americans who were killed, and injured in that head on collision.

In total, 13 American tourists were returning from a day of cave tubing in the Dodge van driven by Errol Belisle.

Among the tourists were the Armijo family husband and wife Adrian Armijo jr. and Sara Armijo would lose their lives in the crash, but among the injured are their son, David, daughter and son-in-law, Bianca and Eric, niece, Maribel Navarro and her boyfriend Tecno Panyarath.

And their off the beaten path adventure ended tragically with Sara's death at the scene and Adrian's death the following day while he was undergoing treatment for injuries sustained. Also dead at the scene was another American national Jacqueline Abad.

It remains to be seen how the multiple fatalities of American nationals on Belizean roadways will affect tourist arrivals that were already on a downturn in the third quarter of the year. Alarms were raised this morning when a German ship cancelled its call at the Fort Street Tourism Village. Was it because of the 4 tourists dead in traffic fatalities? Not so, says the BTB. When we reached for comment, they told us that the ship had cancelled well in advance of this week's accidents.
