Sunday is World Aids Day, observed under the theme "Communities make the difference."
All over the world health activists will be spearheading various activities to highlight the day and generate HIV and AIDS awareness while downplaying stigma.
The Ministry of Health celebrated today with an awareness fair and free HIV Testing at the DIGI Park. We found out more about the process of rapid testing offered to those who opt to know their status.
There were also fairs in other districts. Over the last 5 years, women tested for HIV twice as much as men.
However, Two of every three positive HIV results were males.
The HIV epidemic in Belize remains concentrated in certain population pockets and despite increased access, patients are still being diagnosed rather late in the infection.
