Man Killed Verandah
posted (December 2, 2019)
The terrible weekend of murders didn't end until midnight last night in Corozal Town when a 20 year old was shot on the verandah of his family home.

Shaquile Philips was hit multiple times to his body as he sat on a couch on the verandah - which is in the Alta Mira area of Corozal town.

Police told us what they have learned so far:

ACP Joseph Myvett
"Mr. Phillips along with his father were at home on the veranda and his father had gotten up to go inside the house and shortly thereafter a number of shots were heard and upon him returning outside to make checks he observed that his son was apparently shot and as a result he was immediately rushed to the Corozal community hospital where he died whilst undergoing treatment. The police are in the area at this time canvassing the area. We have recorded several statements but at this time there is no named suspect in relation to this and neither have we been able to establish a motive at this time."

Shaquile's father had been with him on the verandah moments earlier. He told CTV-3 off camera that there was nothing remarkable about how the night ended - just that the heard a spray of gunshots just as he was lying down to sleep:

Voice of: Father of Deceased
"I went in and got into bed. a little bit after that I heard gunshots and when I came out I found him dead on the chair. I shook him and spoke to him to ask him what had happened, but he wasn't responding."

Reporter
"He wasn't able to say anything?"

Voice of: Father of Deceased
"No, I checked his pulse and nothing. He usually comes here and hang out a while and then he goes."

Reporter
"Do you know of any reason or any problems somebody might have with him?"

Voice of: Father of Deceased
"No, he doesn't go out. He is from work to home."

Those in the area heard as many as 8 shots and all indications are that Shaquile Phillips was the target.
