Justice has been swift for a man caught with 30 pounds of weed yesterday evening in Orange Walk.
Police intercepted 45 year old Belize City resident Ewart Seaford Sutherland in Carmelita village yesterday evening at 5:30. He was in a Chevy pickup with a hidden compartment underneath. Police say they looked inside a metal box under the pickup and found 15 parcels of weed. It amounted to 13.7 kilos, or 30.2 pounds.
Today in court Sutherland was read charges for drug trafficking and wasted no time. He appeared before the Magistrate where he pled guilty. He was fined $10,000 dollars and confined for 3yrs in jail. If he cannot pay the fine, he will serve another three years. His pickup with Stann Creek license plates was forfeited to the Government of Belize.
